Doosan Enerbility announced that it had attended the “South Korea-Czechia Nuclear Power Full Lifecycle Cooperation Agreement Ceremony” which was held at its Czech subsidiary Doosan Skoda Power located in Plzen on September 20th. The ceremony was held during the South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s official state visit to the Czech Republic and had been hosted and arranged by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to help strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear sector, prompted by “Team Korea’ recently being selected as the preferred bidder for a Czech nuclear project.

In attendance at the ceremony that day were key figures from the two countries’ governments and nuclear sector, including the South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korea’s Trade, Industry and Energy Minister Dukgeun Ahn, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power President & CEO Jooho Whang, Czech Republic’s Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela and CEZ Group CEO Daniel Beneš. The Doosan Group Chairman Jeongwon Park and Doosan Enerbility Chairman & CEO Geewon Park were also among the attendees at the event.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was given a tour led by Doosan Group Chairman Jeongwon Park around Doosan Skoda Power’s manufacturing facilities. Afterwards, President Yoon and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala took part in a commemorative signing ceremony that entailed signing on a turbine blade made by Doosan Skoda Power. This was a turbine blade identical to the one that is to be delivered to the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant later on.

A total of five memoranda of understanding(MOUs) were signed that day at the ceremony attended by the heads of state and government. One MOU was entered into by KHNP and Doosan Enerbility with Doosan Skoda Power on the supply of steam turbines for the Czech nuclear power plant. Doosan Skoda Power, a turbine manufacturer with a rich history spanning over 150 years, will be producing the steam turbines that are to be installed at the nuclear power plant. Once the contract for the Dukovany power plant is concluded, Doosan Skoda Power is set to supply the steam turbines for the plant.

“Owing to the full-hearted support from the government and President himself, we were able to achieve these great results in the fierce competitive bid for the Czech nuclear project. We aim to do our best until the very end to successfully seal the deal,” said Geewon Park, Doosan Enerbility’s Chairman & CEO. He added, “With conditions becoming more favorable for the nuclear business these days, as reflected in the resumption of the Shin Hanul Units 3 & 4 construction and rising expectations for an increase in exports, we seek to actively pursue investments in this area and support the growth of the nuclear industry and local economy.”
