[부산 엑스포 유치를 응원합니다] ③ 10 million viewers ‘Haeundae’ Director Yoon Je-gyun
Director Yoon Jae-gyun, a representative filmmaker in Chungmuro who was born and raised in Busan and put the films ‘Haeundae’ and ‘International Market’ on the list of 10 million films, said, “The 2030 Busan Expo is the earnest desire of the Korean people.”
In a message of support for the Busan Expo sent to the policy briefing, Director Yoon explained why Busan should host the Expo and made this statement.
He said, “During the Korean War, refugees from the Republic of Korea gathered in Busan and lived fiercely on the bare ground, protecting their lives and achieving the development of Busan.” I want you to do it and give a warm impression to your heart.”
He emphasized that Busan has enough confidence and potential to successfully host the expo.
Director Yoon said, “70 years after the Korean War, Korea has gone from being a poor country to a rich and powerful country that ranks in the world’s top 10 economies.” Busan is at the center of it,” he diagnosed.
He added, “As a port city, all supplies to and from Korea were made through Busan, and based on that, Korea began to play dragons.” He added, “Busan is a city that is a symbol of Korea’s economic development.”
He repeatedly emphasized, “Because of this eagerness and confidence, the 2030 Expo should be held in Busan.”
The following is the full text of the cheering message from film director Jekyun Yoon.
I was born in Busan and raised in Busan until high school. I spent my childhood in Busan, so Busan is like a mother’s arms to me. When I was having a hard time, I always went to Haeundae Beach to see the blue waves and find peace of mind.
I have been to many cities around the world while working in film. However, I have never seen a place where the past and the future coexist and overflow with warmth and passion like Busan. It seems that my films are warm and full of passion because I was born and raised in Busan.
Busan is trying to attract the 2030 Expo. Not only the citizens of Busan, but the entire nation is sincerely and fervently praying for and cheering for the 2030 Busan Expo. Therefore, I would like to inform the world why Busan should host the 2030 Expo. That’s why!
The first is sincerity. Busan is a city with a tearful story that developed amidst the pain of the Korean War 70 years ago. During the Korean War, almost all refugees in Korea gathered in Busan. On the bare ground, they fiercely survived and saved their lives. It is they who made the development of Busan. Their earnest wish is the 2030 Busan Expo. There are not many people left who experienced the Korean War. I hope to give them a warm impression in their hearts by letting them see the world-class expo being held in Busan, which has served as a base for them to live.
Second is confidence. About 70 years after the Korean War, the Republic of Korea has gone from being the poorest country in the world to being one of the world’s top 10 economies. This is a development unparalleled in the world. When everyone said it was impossible, the people of the Republic of Korea made a miracle through sweat and effort. Busan is at the center of it. Korea’s economic development all began in Busan. As a port city, all supplies to and from Korea were made through Busan, and based on that, Korea began to play dragons. In other words, Busan is a city that is a symbol of Korea’s economic development.
Because of this earnestness and confidence, I think the 2030 Expo should be held in Busan. Once again, we sincerely support the bid to host the 2030 Busan Expo!
