In order to respond to various demands such as the super-aging society and the new elderly generation, the government will expand the senior citizen job project to the largest extent ever in 2024, providing a total of 1.03 million jobs.

The related budget is also planned to be significantly expanded from KRW 1.54 trillion to KRW 2.0262 trillion to support a healthy and happy retirement life for more seniors.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 28th that it will recruit participants for the 2024 senior job and social activity support project (public interest activity type, social service type, market type project group) from the 29th to December 29th.

However, the recruitment period during the period may vary depending on local government conditions.

Since 2004, in accordance with Article 23 of the Senior Welfare Act, the government has been supporting various jobs and social activities so that seniors can lead an active and healthy life in retirement.

Accordingly, the number of jobs for seniors is planned to increase significantly from 25,000 in 2004 to 470,000 in 2017, to 883,000 this year, and to 1.03 million next year, which is 147,000 more.

The budget for jobs for the elderly was also increased from 21.2 billion won in 2004 to 523.1 billion won in 2017, and next year’s budget was set at 2.0262 trillion won based on national funds, up from this year’s 1.54 trillion won.

Meanwhile, the projects being recruited this time are public interest activity, social service type, and market type project groups, and anyone aged 65 or older can apply for the public interest activity type.

Social service-type and market-type business groups are for seniors over 60 years old who need jobs. However, detailed qualification conditions and activity details differ depending on the type of senior job and social activity support project.

Applications for next year’s senior citizen job project can be made in person or online starting on the 29th.

Seniors who wish to participate can call the senior job counseling hotline (1544-3388) and receive detailed information by being connected to the agency closest to the caller’s location.
